⏺ Got it — I won't use any stored memory this session. Starting fresh. 👍

  What would you like to program Jibo to do?

✻ Sautéed for 1s

❯ Tell me what you know about Jibo?

                                                                                                                                             09:47 AM claude-opus-4-8
⏺ Jibo is a social robot — originally launched around 2017 as "the world's first social robot for the home." It's a small, friendly desktop robot with a distinctive design:
  a rounded body on a base, with a single circular "face" screen (usually showing an animated orb/eye) that sits on top of three rotating body segments. Those segments let
  Jibo swivel, lean, and "dance" with surprisingly expressive, character-driven motion. It has a light ring, speakers, microphones, and a camera.

  The whole point of Jibo is personality and embodiment — it's not a smart speaker in a box, it's a character. It looks at you, reacts, emotes with body movement and sound,
  and speaks with a distinct voice.

  Here's what I can actually control on Jibo right now, through the connected tools:

  Body & expression
  - Movement/animation — play built-in animations, motions, and "anim data"; there's a whole animation database (animDB) I can search and list
  - Look at — orient Jibo's face/body toward a point or person
  - Light ring — turn it on/off with colors
  - Attention mode — control how Jibo pays attention

  Voice & sound
  - Speak — text-to-speech, including SSML for fine control over how it talks
  - Play sounds — sound effects and audio
  - Volume control

  Face screen
  - Display text or images on the round screen
  - Show animations/images from its library

  Sensing
  - Take a photo with the camera
  - Get audio / listen
  - "Hey Jibo" wake-word events and state
  - Get Jibo's current state and system info

  Skills & routing
  - Jibo runs "skills," and I can route to a skill, run MIM (multimodal interaction) scripts — announcements, questions, dialogs — and enter/exit "agency mode."

  So I can make Jibo speak, move expressively, react to you, show things on its screen, take photos, and respond to "Hey Jibo."

  Want me to check what your actual robot reports right now — its live state and system info — or jump straight into making it do something (speak, move, light up)?

⏺ I'll load the Jibo tools I need for this.

                                                                                                                                             09:49 AM claude-opus-4-8

     Format: Plain text
     Use offset and limit parameters to read specific portions of the file, search within it for specific content, and jq to make structured queries.
     REQUIREMENTS FOR SUMMARIZATION/ANALYSIS/REVIEW:
     - You MUST read the content from the file at
     /Users/jon/.claude/projects/-Users-jon-prg-kacst26/6541c317-80fd-45cc-8fa5-9169a2c74689/tool-results/mcp-jibo-list_animdb_images-1784728151115.txt in sequential chunks
     until 100% of the content has been read.
     - Note: this file's lines are too long for Read's offset/limit chunking. If a shell tool is available, slice by character range (e.g. python read()[A:B], dd, or cut -c)
     instead.
     - If you receive truncation warnings when reading the file, reduce the chunk size until you have read 100% of the content without truncation.
     - Before producing ANY summary or analysis, you MUST explicitly describe what portion of the content you have read. ***If you did not read the entire content, you MUST
     explicitly state this.***
     - If after a few attempts you cannot read the file (file not found, lines too long for Read's offset/limit, no shell access), STOP retrying. Summarize what you were
     able to read, explicitly state which portion you could not read and why, and proceed.

                                                                                                                                             09:49 AM claude-opus-4-8

⏺ Done! Here's what Jibo just did:

  1. 🗣️ Said "Say cheese!"
  2. 📷 Displayed the camera icon on its face screen
  3. 📸 Took a photo at 1920×1080

  The photo is saved on the robot: http://127.0.0.1:8486/media/photo?id=2a5d8956-85d4-11f1-a861-884aea60b907

  Note that URL only works on the robot's local network. If you'd like, I can pull the actual image data back (via lps_get_image) so you can see the picture, or display it
  back on Jibo's own screen. Want me to do that?

⏺ Here's the photo from Jibo's camera:

  I can see a person with glasses, gray/blond hair and a beard, wearing a dark shirt with a white line-art design (looks like a globe/sphere). Behind them is a wood-paneled
  room — a modern office or conference space with a slatted wood ceiling, recessed lights, a round wall clock, and what looks like a screen or display on the right.

  One small note for the demo: this was pulled via lps_get_image, which grabs a fresh frame directly from the camera, so it's a brand-new capture rather than the exact frame
  from the earlier take_photo call — that's why the pose looks candid rather than "say cheese." The two tools work differently: take_photo uses Jibo's SDK photo behavior
  and hands back a local URL, while lps_get_image returns the raw image bytes directly (handy for actually seeing the result, as we just did).

  Want me to display this picture back on Jibo's own screen?

⏺ Done — Jibo just took a fresh photo and is now showing it on its own face screen for about 6 seconds. 📸

  The lesson for your demo: those take_photo URLs are short-lived (127.0.0.1:8486/media/photo?id=...), so the trick is to display the photo right after capturing it, while
  the URL is still valid. The stale one from earlier had already expired, which is why the first two attempts failed — capturing fresh fixed it.

     swap_texturestringnoReplace DISPLAY_TEXTURE placeholder with this path

     `set_anim_transition`

     Control how Jibo transitions between animations.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     `mode`stringyes`"reset"` (return to idle) or `"keep_last_frame"` (hold final pose)

     Sound

     Sound is loaded into a WebAudio cache keyed by alias and played by referencing the alias. Preload once, play many times. Playback can be scheduled to a future wallclock
     time (at_ms_epoch) for sample-accurate timing within a robot and NTP-synced timing across multiple robots.

     `preload_sound`

     Load one or more audio files into the WebAudio cache so subsequent play_sound calls are instant. Blocks until every file is fetched and decoded. Idempotent:
     re-preloading an alias with the same src is a no-op; with a different src, the old buffer is replaced. Use this before any at_ms_epoch playback so the buffer is already
     in memory when the scheduled time arrives.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     soundsarrayyesList of sound entries to preload. Each entry: { alias, src, loop?, volume?, panning?, block? } (see below).

     Each entry in sounds:

     FieldTypeRequiredDescription

     aliasstringyesShort ID to reference this sound in later play_sound/stop_sound/unload_sound calls

     srcstringyesAudio source — see Sound src resolution below

     loopbooleannoIf true, the sound loops seamlessly when played (default false)

     volumenumbernoPlayback volume 0..1 (default 1)

     panningnumbernoStereo panning -1 (left) to 1 (right), default 0

     blockbooleannoIf true, a new play_sound stops the previous instance of this alias instead of layering (default false)

     `play_sound`

     Play a sound on the robot via the jibo.sound WebAudio API. Provide alias to play a preloaded sound (preferred — instant, suitable for at_ms_epoch scheduling), or src to
     load+play a one-shot. If both are given, alias wins and src is treated as a fallback that's loaded if the alias isn't already cached. Returns immediately after
     scheduling — playback does not block the tool result unless wait_for_finish: true.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     aliasstringno*Preloaded sound alias from preload_sound. Use this for sample-accurate timing — the buffer is already in memory

     srcstringno*One-shot source — same conventions as preload_sound.src. Used if alias is not provided, or as a fallback when the named alias is not yet cached

     at_ms_epochnumbernoUnix epoch (ms) at which to start playback. Translated via NTP-disciplined Date.now() into the AudioContext clock for sample-accurate scheduling.
     Multiple robots given the same value start within a few ms. Values in the past play immediately. Only meaningful for preloaded aliases

     offset_secondsnumbernoSkip this many seconds into the buffer before starting (default 0)

     volumenumbernoOverride volume 0..1 for this play (persists for future plays of the same alias)

     loopbooleannoOverride loop for this play

     wait_for_finishbooleannoIf true, the tool does not return until playback completes. Default false. Ignored when at_ms_epoch is set

     * At least one of alias or src must be provided.

     `stop_sound`

     Stop all currently playing instances of a preloaded sound by alias. The buffer stays cached — use unload_sound to free memory.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     aliasstringnoSound alias. If omitted, stops all sounds

     `unload_sound`

     Remove a preloaded sound from the cache, freeing its decoded buffer. Any active playback of this alias is stopped.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     aliasstringnoSound alias to remove. If omitted, removes all sounds

     Sound src resolution

     preload_sound and play_sound accept the same src forms. Bare relative paths (no scheme, no leading /) are rejected.

     FormExampleResolution

     Absolute path/opt/sounds/jingle.wavused as-is (recommended for user sound libraries; copy files into /opt/sounds/ on the robot)

     file:// URLfile:///opt/sounds/jingle.wavstripped to the absolute path

     HTTP(S) URLhttp://example.com/foo.mp3fetched via XHR

     Asset-pack URI@be/agency://audio/foo.wavresolved via jibo.utils.PathUtils.getAssetUri()

     animdb://… (alias)animdb://Gibberish/NonGibberishMurmursTest/Murmur_01.wavalias for jibo-anim-db-animations://…

     project://…project://audio/bar.wavresolved against the current skill's package root

     core://…core://audio/baz.wavresolved against the jibo core module

     Decode formats follow the Electron/Chrome WebAudio decoder (typically .wav, .mp3, .m4a, .ogg, .oga, .aif, .flac).

     Cross-robot synchronized playback:

     // 1. Preload the same alias + src on every robot
     await Promise.all(jibos.map(j =>
     j.callTool('preload_sound', { sounds: [{ alias: 'jingle', src: '/opt/sounds/jingle.wav' }] })
     ));

     // 2. Pick a wallclock target a comfortable margin in the future
     const target = Date.now() + 3000; // 3s ahead — long enough for every robot to receive the call

     // 3. Fire on all robots at the same epoch. Each robot converts the target into its
     // own AudioContext clock via NTP-disciplined Date.now(); they start within a few ms.
     await Promise.all(jibos.map(j =>
     j.callTool('play_sound', { alias: 'jingle', at_ms_epoch: target })
     ));

     Display

     `display_text`

     `display_image`

     Display an image on Jibo's screen.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     `src`stringnoImage source. Accepts an absolute path, http(s)://, file://, data: URI, or asset-pack URI (see below).

     `base64`stringnoRaw base64 image data (alternative to src)

     `mime_type`stringnoMIME type when using base64 (default: "image/png")

     `dismiss_display`

     Dismiss whatever is on screen and bring the eye back. No parameters.

     `prompt_lineup_menu`

     Show a lineup of image tiles on Jibo's screen and wait for the user to tap one. Useful for image-based pick-the-X prompts (language learning, multiple-choice quizzes,
     picture menus). Each item supplies an image via src (file path / URL / data URI) or base64 + mime_type. Optional title text is rendered above the tiles. Per-tile labels
     are hidden by default. Layout is a single horizontal row by default; pass layout: "grid" for an N×M grid. Blocks until the user taps a tile, swipes down to dismiss, or
     timeout_seconds elapses.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     itemsarrayyesList of menu items. Each item: { id, src? | base64?, mime_type?, label? }. id is required; either src or base64 must be supplied. src accepts the same
     forms as display_image.src, including asset-pack URIs (see below).

     titlestringnoHeader rendered top-center above the tiles (e.g. the word "apple").

     layoutstringno"row" (default) for one horizontal row, or "grid" for an auto-arranged grid.

     rowsnumbernoGrid rows (only used when layout="grid").

     colsnumbernoGrid columns (only used when layout="grid").

     show_labelsbooleannoShow each item's label below its image. Default false.

     label_font_sizenumbernoLabel font size in pixels (default 32).

     label_font_familystringnoLabel font family (default "Proxima Nova Soft"). Same conventions as display_text.font_family.

     label_font_stylestringnoLabel font style: "normal" (default), "italic", or "oblique".

     label_font_weightstringnoLabel font weight: "bold" (default), "normal", or numeric "100"–"900".

     title_font_sizenumbernoTitle font size in pixels (default 80).

     title_font_familystringnoTitle font family (default "Proxima Nova Soft"). Same conventions as display_text.font_family.

     title_font_stylestringnoTitle font style: "normal" (default), "italic", or "oblique".

     title_font_weightstringnoTitle font weight: "bold" (default), "normal", or numeric "100"–"900".

     title_colorstringnoTitle color as CSS hex (default "#FFFFFF").

     background_colorstringnoBackground fill behind the tiles, CSS hex (default "#000000").

     timeout_secondsnumbernoMax seconds to wait for a tap. -1 (default) waits forever.

     selection_indicatorstringno"press_pulse" (default) brief shrink on press; "outline" always-visible outline that brightens on press; "none" no feedback.

     Response (JSON in the text content):

     { "reason": "tap", "chosen": { "id": "apple" } }

     reason is one of:

     "tap" — user tapped a tile; chosen.id is the picked item.

     "timeout" — timeout_seconds elapsed without a tap.

     "dismissed" — user swiped down OR another caller dismissed the menu.

     Example: "pick the apple" with 4 image tiles

     await callTool('display_text', { text: 'apple', hold_seconds: 1 });
     const result = await callTool('prompt_lineup_menu', {
     title: 'apple',
     layout: 'row',
     timeout_seconds: 30,
     items: [
     { id: 'apple',  src: 'http://example.com/img/apple.png'  },
     { id: 'banana', src: 'http://example.com/img/banana.png' },
     { id: 'orange', src: 'http://example.com/img/orange.png' },
     { id: 'pear',   src: 'http://example.com/img/pear.png'   },
     ],
     });
     const payload = JSON.parse(result.content[0].text);
     if (payload.reason === 'tap') {
     console.log('User picked:', payload.chosen.id);
     } else {
     console.log('No selection:', payload.reason);
     }

     For program-supplied images, swap src for base64 + mime_type:

     items: [
     { id: 'apple', base64: 'iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAA...', mime_type: 'image/png' },
     /* ... */
     ]

     Image src resolution

     display_image and prompt_lineup_menu accept several src forms. Each is normalized before loading:

     FormExampleResolution

     Data URIdata:image/png;base64,iVBORw0K…passed through verbatim

     HTTP(S) URLhttps://example.com/foo.pngpassed through verbatim

     file:// URLfile:///opt/jibo/foo.pngpassed through verbatim

     Absolute path/opt/jibo/foo.pngprefixed with file://

     Asset-pack URI@be/agency://images/apple.pngresolved via jibo.utils.PathUtils.getAssetUri() and prefixed with file://

     project://…project://images/foo.pngresolved against the current skill's package root

     core://…core://resources/foo.pngresolved against the jibo core module

     animdb://… (alias)animdb://animations/textures/emojis/hf/moon.pngalias for jibo-anim-db-animations://…

     Asset-pack URIs are the recommended way to reference images that ship inside a skill's asset pack — you don't need to know the install path on the robot. Any installed
     @be/<skill> package (or other resolvable Node module) can be the asset pack.

     Aliases. A small set of short asset-pack aliases is expanded before resolution:

     AliasExpands to

     animdbjibo-anim-db-animations

     ⚠️ https:// URLs are unreliable on real robots.
     The on-device Be runs in a 2016-era Electron (1.4.3, Node 6.9.2, OpenSSL 1.0.2).
     Its bundled CA / cipher set is too old to handshake with most modern web servers — even Wikipedia and raw.githubusercontent.com fail.
     The simulator works because it uses your laptop's modern TLS stack.
     For demos and production, prefer animdb://, @be/<skill>://, absolute file paths, plain data: URIs, or http:// (no TLS) sources.
     Externally-hosted HTTPS images may need to be proxied through the agency server.

     Animation Preview

     List all animation names available in Jibo's on-device animation database. Returns a JSON array of strings.

     `list_animdb_animations`

     List every animation registered in jibo.animDB with its full metadata. Returns a JSON array of { name, path, duration, durationRange, categories, metaTerms, hasAudio,
     startsNeutral, endsNeutral, orientation, layers }. Use this when you need richer info than list_animdb_names (e.g. picking by category, duration, or layer presence).
     Result is cached.

     `list_animdb_images`

     List every PNG/JPG/GIF image shipped under jibo-anim-db-animations/animations/textures/. Returns a JSON array of { name, path, dir, animdbUri, httpPath }. The animdbUri
     (e.g. "animdb://animations/textures/emojis/hf/moon.png") is ready to pass to display_image or prompt_lineup_menu. The same JSON is also served by the agency web server
     at GET /api/animdb-images for the gallery page. Result is cached.

     `search_animdb`

     Search the animation database by case-insensitive substring match against animation names and meta tags. Returns a flat list of matching animation names, playable via
     play_motion.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     searchstringyesSearch term to match against names, categories, and tags

     `trigger_animation`

     Play a previously preloaded animation by name. Works with .keys (from preload_animation), .anim (from preload_anim_data), and animDB (from preload_animdb) preloads.
     Consumed after play. Use at for multi-Jibo synchronization — the robot spin-waits for sub-millisecond precision.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     namestringyesName from preload_animation, preload_anim_data, or preload_animdb

     atnumbernoUnix epoch ms. Waits until this wallclock time before starting. Max 30s ahead.

     await callTool('preload_animdb', { name: 'wave', anim_name: 'happy_01' });
     await callTool('trigger_animation', { name: 'wave' });

     // Synchronized multi-Jibo: preload on all robots, then trigger at the same wallclock time
     const triggerTime = Date.now() + 3000; // 3 seconds from now
     // Send to all Jibos in parallel:
     await Promise.all(jibos.map(j =>
     j.callTool('trigger_animation', { name: 'wave', at: triggerTime })
     ));

     // Discover available animations
     const names = await callTool('list_animdb_names', {});
     const results = await callTool('search_animdb', { search: 'happy' });

     // .anim: preload computed animation, then trigger
     const animData = computeAnimObject(keysData, 'my_anim.keys');
     await callTool('preload_anim_data', { name: 'preview', animation: animData });
     await callTool('trigger_animation', { name: 'preview' });

     // One-shot .anim playback

     `light_ring_off`

     Turn off the LED ring. No parameters.

     Camera & Audio

     `take_photo`

     Take a photo using the Jibo SDK. Returns a temporary URL (valid on robot's local network). Pass the URL to display_image to show it on screen.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     `resolution`numberno1=672x380, 2=1280x720 (default), 3=1920x1080, 4=2688x1520

     `lps_get_image`

     Capture a photo via the LPS camera service directly. Returns inline base64 JPEG data. No parameters.

     `get_audio`

     Capture audio from the robot's microphone. Returns base64-encoded WAV (mono, 16-bit PCM, 16 kHz).

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     `duration`numbernoRecording duration in seconds (default: 3, max: 30)

     Settings

     `set_volume`

     Set Jibo's master system volume.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     `volume`numberyesVolume level, 0.0 (silent) to 1.0 (max)

     `set_speaker_volume`

     Set Jibo's internal speaker level.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     `volume`numberyesSpeaker level, 0 to 117

     `set_attention_mode`

     Control how Jibo tracks people and faces.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     `mode`stringyes`"OFF"`, `"COMMAND"`, or `"IDLE"`

     Agency Mode

     `enter_agency_mode`

     Enter persistent agency mode. Jibo stays in the agency skill until exit_agency_mode is called. Use before a sequence of control operations to avoid skill-switch
     latency. While in agency mode, "Hey Jibo" events are captured and buffered. No parameters.

     `exit_agency_mode`

     Exit agency mode and return to Idle. No parameters.

     `get_hey_jibo_events`

     Returns and clears buffered Hey Jibo events captured while in agency mode. Each event includes timestamp, spoken text, and NLU parse results. Events captured in
     capture_only mode have empty text and hj_only: true (no listen turn follows the hotword). No parameters.

     `set_hey_jibo_mode`

     Control how Jibo responds to the "Hey Jibo" hotword. Enters agency mode if not already active. The mode automatically resets to normal when agency mode exits — it does
     not persist.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     `mode`stringyes`"normal"`, `"capture_only"`, `"asr_only"`, or `"disabled"`

     `auto_settle_seconds`numberno`capture_only` only: auto-settle the listening expression this many seconds after each captured Hey Jibo (a fresh Hey Jibo resets the
     timer). Omit or 0 (default) to keep Jibo listening until `settle_hey_jibo` is called

     normal — full default behavior: wake expression, listen, command parsing, skill launching.

     capture_only — Jibo does his wake expression and stays in his blue listening state, but takes no action. Each Hey Jibo is captured as an event (via get_hey_jibo_events
     or the notifications/hey_jibo SSE notification) with hj_only: true. He remains in the listening state until settle_hey_jibo is called (or auto_settle_seconds elapses),
     so the client controls when he stops indicating that he is listening.

     asr_only — a listen follows Hey Jibo, but only raw transcribed text is captured; no command parsing or skill launching.

     disabled — Hey Jibo is ignored entirely: no wake reaction and no events.

     `settle_hey_jibo`

     Settle Jibo's blue "listening" expression back to idle after a captured Hey Jibo (capture_only mode). Call when the event has been handled and Jibo should indicate he
     is no longer listening. Safe to call when he isn't in a listening state (no-op). No parameters.

     `get_hey_jibo_mode`

     Get the current Hey Jibo hotword mode (as set via set_hey_jibo_mode), plus the low-level jetstream HJ mode (NORMAL_HJ / ONLY_HJ / IGNORE_HJ) for ground truth. No
     parameters.

     Skill Routing

     `route_to_skill`

     Launch a Jibo skill by name. The conversation pauses while the skill runs.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     `skill`stringyesSkill asset pack name (e.g. "@be/clock", "@be/radio")

     `options`objectnoLaunch options for the skill

     `route_to_skill_with_return`

     Launch a skill and return to agency when it finishes.

     ParameterTypeRequiredDescription

     `skill`stringyesSkill asset pack name

     `options`objectnoLaunch options

     System

     `get_jibo_state`

     Get Jibo's current operational state. Returns timestamp and platform. No parameters.

     `get_system_info`

     Returns system information: hostname, platform, architecture, uptime, memory, Node version. No parameters.

     `get_running_skill`

     Query the Skill Switching Manager (SSM) for the currently running top-level skill. No parameters.

⏺ Done — I found the docs page (api.html at 192.168.41.101:9010), followed its links, and read both the MCP Server API and the full ESML Reference PDF (11 pages). Here's
  what I learned.

  The robot & how it's reached

  - Robot: Ship-Neon-Pear-Yarn (linux/arm, Node 6.5, old Electron) at 192.168.41.101 — separate device from this Mac, reachable over the LAN or as ship-neon-pear-yarn.local.
  - The Jibo Agency MCP server on port 9010 exposes everything over MCP Streamable HTTP: POST /mcp (initialize → get Mcp-Session-Id → tools/call), plus a GET /mcp SSE stream
  for real-time Hey Jibo notifications. Same tools I'm already calling directly.
  - ⚠️ Important gotcha for demos: HTTPS image/sound URLs are unreliable on the real robot — its 2016-era TLS stack can't handshake with most modern servers (even Wikipedia
  fails). Prefer animdb://, @be/<skill>://, absolute file paths, data: URIs, or plain http://. This is exactly why displaying that photo worked (local http://) but a modern
  HTTPS URL might not.

  MCP tools, grouped

  - Speech: speak (embodied TTS, supports ESML), tts_speak_ssml (raw griffin voice, SSML only, no ESML), stop
  - Motion/anim: lookat (x=fwd, y=left, z=up; face-forward ≈ {1,0,0.45}), play_motion, the preload/trigger family (preload_animdb→trigger_animation, with at: epoch for
  multi-robot sync), search_animdb/list_animdb_*
  - Sound: WebAudio cache — preload_sound→play_sound with at_ms_epoch for sample-accurate/cross-robot timing
  - Display: display_text, display_image, dismiss_display, and prompt_lineup_menu (tap-a-tile picker — great for quizzes/language learning)
  - Dialog (MIM): run_mim_announcement (speak + auto-tagged animation), run_mim_question (ask + listen + return ASR/NLU), run_mim/run_mim_file
  - Sensing: take_photo (URL), lps_get_image (inline base64), get_audio
  - Lighting, volume, attention mode, agency mode, Hey-Jibo modes, skill routing, system info

  ESML (Embodied Speech Markup Language)

  Plain text annotated with XML tags, passed to speak (or MIM). Key pieces:

  Animation tags — <es> (any), <anim> (body/screen, excludes audio-only), <ssa> (audio-only "semi-speech"), <sfx> (sound effects):
  - By name: <es name='Eye_Curious_01'/> · by category: <anim cat='happy'/> (⚠️ only one cat at a time)
  - Filters on meta tags: &/none = all of, ? = any of, ! = none of → filter='!(hf), &(cheese)'. Grouped syntax makes complex queries readable.
  - Blocking vs non-blocking: empty tag = blocking (plays alone); text inside = bounded (stretched to fit that text); nonBlocking='true' = unbounded (needs text to its right
  to fire). Plus loop, endNeutral='true', and layers (Body/Screen/Eye/Audio metalayers — animations coexist only if on different layers).

  TTS tags: <break size='0.5'/>, <pitch halftone/band/add/mult>, <duration stretch/set>, <say-as spell='jibo'/>, <phoneme ph='b aa1 n ou0'> (0/1/2 = stress), <style
  set='enthusiastic|sheepish|confused|confident|neutral'>.

  Auto-tagging: speak/MIM auto-inserts blinks, weight-shifts, question posture, comma pauses, and Hot Word emojis — but never overrides animations you explicitly request.

  The cheat sheet gives ready-made snippets, e.g.:
  - Emoji: <anim cat='emoji' filter='!(hf), &(cheese)' nonBlocking='true'/>
  - Dance: <anim cat='dance' filter='music, rom-twerk'/>

  So instead of separate speak + display calls, I could now do a single embodied line like:
  <anim cat='happy' nonBlocking='true'/>Say cheese! <anim cat='emoji' filter='!(hf), &(cheese)' nonBlocking='true'/>Perfect!

  Want me to try an ESML line on Jibo to show off the synchronized speech + animation — maybe redo the "say cheese" moment with a real happy/cheese animation baked in?

✻ Brewed for 1m 33s

❯ Yes please

⏺ jibo - speak (MCP)(text: "<anim cat='happy' nonBlocking='true'/>Okay, everybody get ready... <break size='0.4'/> say <anim cat='emoji' filter='!(hf), &(cheese)'
  nonBlocking='true'/>cheeeese! <anim cat='laughing' nonBlocking='true' endNeutral='true'/>Perfect shot!")
  ⎿  Spoke: "<anim cat='happy' nonBlocking='true'/>Okay, everybody get ready... <break size='0.4'/> say <anim cat='emoji' filter='!(hf), &(cheese)'
     nonBlocking='true'/>cheeeese! <anim cat='laughing' nonBlocking='true' endNeutral='true'/>Perfect shot!"

                                                                                                                                             09:55 AM claude-opus-4-8
⏺ That's ESML in action 🎬 — a single speak call where Jibo:

  1. <anim cat='happy'/> — perks up happily as it starts talking
  2. <break size='0.4'/> — a beat of anticipation before "say..."
  3. <anim cat='emoji' filter='!(hf), &(cheese)'/> — fires the cheese emoji animation right on the word "cheeese!"
  4. <anim cat='laughing' endNeutral='true'/> — a laugh on "Perfect shot!", then settles back to neutral pose

  All of the body motion, screen graphics, and speech timing are synchronized automatically by the embodied TTS — no separate display_image/play_motion/timing juggling like
  we did the first time around. That's the payoff of ESML: you describe the performance inline and Jibo choreographs it.

  Want to keep going — maybe have Jibo actually snap another photo at the "cheese" moment, or try a dance (<anim cat='dance' filter='music, rom-upbeat'/>)?

✻ Worked for 12s

❯ Please tell us a story about a dream Jibo has. Use different voice for different characters, and put in animations and light rign effect to make it fun

                                                                                                                                             09:57 AM claude-opus-4-8
⏺ What a lovely idea. Let me load the light-ring tools so I can add lighting effects synced to the story.

                                                                                                                                             09:57 AM claude-opus-4-8
⏺ Let me set a good volume and begin. I'll run the story beat by beat, changing the light ring before each segment so the color matches the mood.

  Beat 1 — Jibo gets sleepy (dim blue glow):

⏺ jibo - set_volume (MCP)(volume: 0.7)
  ⎿  Master volume set to 0.7

⏺ jibo - light_ring_on (MCP)(r: 0, g: 0.05, b: 0.45)

⏺ jibo - speak (MCP)(text: "<anim cat='happy' nonBlocking='true'/>Gather round, everyone, and I'll tell you about a dream I had last night. <break size='0.4'/> It was very,

※ recap: We're demoing how to program Jibo with Claude Code; so far Jibo said "cheese," showed a camera icon, took a photo, and performed a synchronized ESML speech line.
  Next action is your call: snap another photo mid-"cheese" or try a dance. (disable recaps in /config)

❯ Ok, thank you for all that. Now, can you make me a little server that throws up a web page that let's me press a button to put a heart icon on Jibos screen and a thumbs
  up as an option too

                                                                                                                                             10:12 AM claude-opus-4-8
⏺ Love it. Let me first find the heart and thumbs-up icons in Jibo's image library, then build you a little local web server.

⏺ No thumbs-up ships with Jibo (there's a checkmark, but that's not the same). The heart is a real asset; for the thumbs-up I'll supply my own icon as an SVG data URI. Let

⏺ Heart works. Now the thumbs-up SVG data URI:

⏺ The harness tried to render that data URI as an image. No matter — I'll convert the thumbs-up to a PNG (most compatible with Jibo's screen) and let the server handle the
  encoding. Let me find a converter.

⏺ Now let me start the server and test that both buttons actually drive Jibo — first confirming the MCP proxy works end-to-end.

⏺ Bash(export PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/opt/homebrew/bin:/usr/local/bin
  cd /Users/jon/prg/kacst26/jibo-buttons

     == POST /show thumbsup ==
     {
       "ok": true,
       "label": "Thumbs Up"
     }

                                                                                                                                             10:20 AM claude-opus-4-8
⏺ Both buttons work end-to-end — each POST reached Jibo and displayed the icon (you should have just seen the heart, then the thumbs-up, on Jibo's screen). Let me grab your
  Mac's LAN IP so you can also open it from a phone.

⏺ Bash(export PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin

                                                                                                                                             10:20 AM claude-opus-4-8
⏺ Done! Your Jibo reaction-button server is built, running, and tested — both buttons successfully drove Jibo's screen. 🎉

  Open it

  - On this Mac: http://localhost:8765
  - From your phone/tablet (same Wi‑Fi): http://192.168.41.235:8765

  You'll see a page with two big buttons — ❤️ Heart and 👍 Thumbs Up. Tap either and the icon pops onto Jibo's face for ~4 seconds. A status line confirms each press (or
  shows an error if Jibo can't be reached).

  What I built

  /Users/jon/prg/kacst26/jibo-buttons/
  ├── server.py ← the whole thing (Python stdlib only, no installs)
  └── assets/
      ├── thumbsup.png       ← custom thumbs-up icon (Jibo has no built-in one)
      └── thumbsup.svg       ← source for the icon

  How it works

  - The browser only talks to your local server (POST /show {icon}). The server is a tiny MCP client that opens a session to Jibo's Agency server
  (http://192.168.41.101:9010/mcp) and calls the display_image tool — so no CORS or session juggling in the browser.
  - Heart uses Jibo's own shipped asset (animdb://…/heart.png) — the robot loads it locally.
  - Thumbs-up doesn't exist in Jibo's library, so I drew one and the server sends it inline as base64 PNG — which also sidesteps the robot's old-TLS problem with HTTPS
  images.
  - The MCP session auto-reconnects if it drops, and presses are serialized so rapid taps don't collide.

  Managing it

  - It's running now in the background (pid 30026), logging to /tmp/jibo_buttons.log.
  - Point it at a different robot: JIBO_MCP_URL=http://ship-neon-pear-yarn.local:9010/mcp python3 server.py
  - Change port/hold time via --port (and HOLD_SECONDS near the top of the file).
  - To stop it: kill 30026.

  Want me to add more reaction buttons (star, laugh, party) or make the icons also speak/animate with a matching ESML line when pressed (e.g. thumbs-up → "Nice job!" with a
  happy wiggle)?

✻ Churned for 2m 23s

❯ Please take a look at the Local Perception System (LPS) debug page on port 8484 at the /index.html url on Jibo. Somewhere in there there is a stream of data that includes
  entities. My Jibo is trained to recognize my face (and only my face), and I want you to figure out how to watch that websocket and put a heart up for a few seconds on
  Jibos screen when he sees me. Then dont' out it back up until the entity clears and he then seems my face anew. If he sees some other face put up a thumbs up please. I
  think there is an identity service on Jibo that might be needed for this. Look at the services debug page at port 8181 /index.html to find that.

                                                                                                                                             10:24 AM claude-opus-4-8
⏺ Let me start by exploring both debug pages on the robot.

⏺ One trained face exists — identity 69d56e1ebf21b6001677f347 (that's you). When Jibo recognizes you, the entity's id_summary.name will equal that ID; an unrecognized face

  Let me capture a real face event to confirm the structure. Please look at Jibo for the next ~20 seconds while I record the stream.

  - Face entity = has a head part; id_summary.name = 69d56e1ebf21b6001677f347 (your trained ID), kind: "fused", confidence ~0.38.

        5 Data flow
        6 ---------
        7 * LPS "visual awareness" websocket  ->  ws://<robot>:8484/lps/visual_awareness
        8 Streams JSON frames with an `entities` array. A *face* entity has a part with
        9   key "head" and an `id_summary` = {name, kind, confidence}. `name` is the
       10 identity-service id of a recognised person, or "UNKNOWN".
       11 * Identity service                  ->  http://<robot>:8489/identity/list
       12 Lists the trained faces. Whatever ids are trained here count as "me".
       13 * Be Agency MCP server              ->  http://<robot>:9010/mcp
       14 We call the `display_image` tool to put the heart / thumbs-up on the screen.
       15
       16 Behaviour (as requested)
       17 ------------------------
       18 * When a NEW face appears and it is recognised as me -> show a HEART for a few
       19 seconds. It is NOT shown again for that same continuous presence.
       20 * When that face leaves (the entity clears) and my face appears anew -> heart
       21   again.
       22 * When a NEW face appears that is NOT me (unknown) -> show a THUMBS-UP.
       23
       24 Each face is latched per LPS entity-id, so one reaction per presence. When the
       25 entity disappears from the stream for a short grace period it is considered
       26 cleared, and its next appearance (a fresh entity id) reacts again.

⏺ It connected and correctly fired a thumbs-up for an unknown face — but it didn't catch you as "me." That's the recognition-lag race: when a face first appears it reads
  UNKNOWN for a moment before the recognizer resolves it to your trained id, and my 1.2 s "not me" cutoff fired first.

  Let me measure how long recognition actually takes so I can tune it. Please look away from Jibo for a second, then look back at it during this capture:

⏺ Key finding: the recognizer reports three distinct name values for a face — your trained id (69d5… = me), NOT_TRAINED (a face that doesn't match), and UNKNOWN (identity
  not yet computed). That run saw a NOT_TRAINED face the whole time (correctly a thumbs-up), and never your id.

⏺ No face was in frame that time (0 head frames) — recognition is simply intermittent depending on whether you're actually framed. The important thing is confirmed: a
  well-detected trained face → your id (heart); a detected non-matching face → NOT_TRAINED (thumbs).

  Now let me harden the watcher against the recognition lag: bias toward "me" (any confident hit → heart), and only decide "other" on a definitive NOT_TRAINED after a grace
  window — never on the transient UNKNOWN.

⏺ It works — heart fired for you (entity 4040), exactly once for that continuous presence. Combined with the earlier run's thumbs-up for a NOT_TRAINED face, both paths are
  verified:

  - ❤️ You (trained id) → heart, shown once per presence
  - 👍 Any other face (NOT_TRAINED) → thumbs-up
  - Latched per LPS entity id, so it won't re-show until you leave (entity clears) and reappear as a fresh entity

  Let me start it running in the background so it's live:

⏺ It's live and watching. Here's the summary.

  Done ✅

  face_watch.py is running in the background, watching Jibo's perception stream and reacting to faces in real time.

  How it works

  Three of Jibo's services, wired together:

  ┌────────────────────────────────┬──────────────────────────────────┬───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
  │             Source             │               Port               │                                               Role                                                │

  │ LPS visual_awareness websocket │ ws://…:8484/lps/visual_awareness │ Streams entities[]; a face entity has a head part + id_summary {name, kind, confidence}           │

  └────────────────────────────────┴──────────────────────────────────┴───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘

  Logic: for each face entity (head part present), read id_summary.name:
  - = your trained id (conf ≥ 0.15) → ❤️ heart
  - NOT_TRAINED (a real face, no match) → 👍 thumbs-up
  - UNKNOWN (identity still resolving) → wait, never decisive

  Each reaction fires once per presence, latched by the LPS entity id. When you leave, the entity clears (after a 1.5 s grace); when you return you get a fresh entity id and
  the heart fires anew — exactly what you asked for. I biased toward "me" (any confident hit wins instantly) and only rule "other" after a non-matching face persists 2 s,
  so the recognizer's start-up lag doesn't misfire a thumbs-up at you.

  One honest caveat

  Your trained model has only 5 examples and recognizes you at low confidence (~0.3–0.4), so recognition is intermittent — good frontal framing → heart; poor angle/lighting
  → sometimes NOT_TRAINED → thumbs-up. That's the model's flakiness, not the watcher. Re-training with more examples via the identity service would firm it up.

⏺ The watcher's already reacting — it caught you (entity 4040 → ❤️) at startup. Let me set up a live tail so we see each new reaction as it happens.

                                                                                                                                             10:33 AM claude-opus-4-8

⏺ Tailing now — I'll relay each reaction as it comes in. 👀

  Go ahead and test it in front of Jibo:
  - Look at Jibo → you should see ❤️ and I'll report "recognised ME → HEART"
  - Look away, then back → the entity clears and re-triggers a fresh heart
  - Have a different face appear (another person, or hold up a photo) → 👍 thumbs-up

  The tail will run for up to 10 minutes. I'll call out each heart, thumbs-up, and entity-clear as they happen.

⏺ 👍 Thumbs-up! A new face (entity 4072) appeared and was classified as NOT_TRAINED — not your trained identity — so Jibo showed the thumbs-up. If that was actually you, it
  means the recognizer didn't match you that time (the low-confidence model), so it defaulted to "stranger." Still watching for the next one. 👀

⏺ 👍 Another thumbs-up (entity 4077, NOT_TRAINED). That's now two "stranger" reads in a row after your earlier heart — the recognizer keeps landing on NOT_TRAINED rather
  than your trained id.

  This is the low-confidence model showing its seams: it matched you earlier (entity 4040 ❤️) but isn't matching now. If these are all you and you'd expect hearts, the fix
  is on the recognition side, not the watcher — e.g. re-train with more examples via the identity service, or I can loosen the match (lower ME_CONF_MIN) — though that risks
  a stranger occasionally getting a heart. Want me to do either? Still tailing. 👀

⏺ 👍 Thumbs-up again (entity 4095, NOT_TRAINED) — third stranger read in a row.

  The pattern's now clear: recognition matched you once (❤️ 4040) but has read NOT_TRAINED every time since. If you're the one in frame, the model just isn't confident
  enough right now. I'd suggest one of:

  1. Re-train your face with more/better examples (frontal, good lighting) via the identity service — best fix.
  2. Loosen matching so borderline reads count as you — quick, but a real stranger could occasionally get a heart.

  Want me to do #2 now (and/or help with #1)? Still tailing. 👀

❯ Loosen the matching so it recognizes me

⏺ "Loosen matching" is the right instinct, but there's a subtlety I need to check first: right now the recognizer is emitting the name NOT_TRAINED — not your id at low
  confidence. Lowering my confidence threshold wouldn't help, because your id never appears in those frames. Let me look at whether the stream carries the underlying
  per-face match scores so I can loosen it meaningfully.

  As soon as a face is detected, my live tail will fire and I'll read the captured hypotheses to see exactly what confidence your trained id gets on the NOT_TRAINED frames —
  that tells me the right threshold to loosen to. Standing by. 👀

⏺ All stopped and cleaned up — the face watcher, the tail monitor, the hypothesis probe, and the button web server are all shut down. Nothing Jibo-related is still running.

  Here's where things landed for your demo:

  Built and working
  - jibo-buttons/server.py — the web page with ❤️/👍 buttons (proxies to Jibo's MCP)
  - jibo-buttons/face_watch.py — watches the LPS visual_awareness websocket and reacts: heart for your trained face, thumbs-up for others, once per presence
  - jibo-buttons/assets/thumbsup.png — the custom thumbs-up icon

  Open thread for next time: loosening recognition. I confirmed the reason you kept getting 👍 is the recognizer emitting NOT_TRAINED (not your id at low confidence), and I
  found the lever — the raw identity_inputs[].hypotheses[] carry your id's actual match score before the fused decision discards it. I just didn't get a
  NOT_TRAINED-with-you-in-frame sample to pick the exact threshold. When you want to pick it back up, get in front of Jibo and I'll grab that sample and wire the looser
  match in. Re-training with more examples would also help.

  Thanks — that was a fun one. 👋
